It seems to me that, wth Donald Trump’s recent thuggish behaviour in Venezuela and his off-the-wall threats to invade Greenland, our special relationship with the US is special only in the sense that certain unfortunate children are said to have special educational needs.
Perhaps we should be cosying up to China instead now that the transatlantic union is broken. In fact, giving the go-ahead for the new Chinese Embassy in London suggests that this may already be happening. Goodbye Washington, hello Beijing.
Another possibility also exists of course: that Trump is the Antichrist and the world is about to end. Isn’t it a spooky coincidence that the end of time and the Day of Judgement, as foretold in the Bible, are sometimes referred to as ‘the last trump’?
